iCAN’s Young Adult Professional Program provides young
professionals in the first stages of their career, ages ~19 -29, with the tools, network opportunities, and community needed to excel as they transition from students to professionals.
iCAN is committed to empowering young people to become future leaders, researchers, innovators, advocates, and clinicians in the world of healthcare. No matter where one is in their growth and development, the Young Adult Professionals program will help develop necessary skills such as leadership and communication.
By connecting young people with their peers and the larger iCAN community, iCAN Young Adult Professionals empowers them to reach their full potential in their careers.
YPN's Amazing Leaders
Uma Subrayan is originally from Louisville, KY and attended college at The Ohio State University and graduate school at Tulane University. Currently, she works in bone marrow transplant research and is the chair of KIDS Michigan. She became involved with iCAN in 2017 and has loved connecting with new people and learning how to use her voice to advance medicine and research. She looks forward to applying her clinical research background to advocate for patients and families. Outside of iCAN, she enjoys doing Indian classical dance and quilling designs.
Braulio Hernandez, originally from Havana, Cuba, currently studies Film and Television Production at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. After Moving to Miami, FL at a young age, he started his career in the entertainment industry as an actor and made his way into the production side of the industry. Beyond the arts, Braulio is dedicated to childhood cancer advocacy, a mission inspired by his battle against cancer at 16. His involvement with iCAN since 2021 has been fueled by a desire to use his artistic talents to support and uplift young patients, combining his passion for storytelling with advocacy to make a meaningful impact.
Ella Schaffer is part of the class of 2027 at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She is in the Global Health Humanities Gateway program and pursuing a degree in psychology while on a pre-med track. Inspired by her childhood in Chicago, she aspires to work as a physician serving both pediatric patients and underserved populations. Ella joined iCAN seeking to understand the perspective of the patient and to gain greater insight into pediatric healthcare. Additionally, being Polish, she was drawn to iCAN’s global outreach and emphasis on collaboration among various countries. Ella looks forward to leading the Youth Council and contributing to iCAN's noble mission.
